Thank you very much to Gary Moore from Bayswater SES from coming along last Wednesday night to instruct Swan members in the field of mechanical advantage. Gary included an introductory lecture on MA theory and a practical session to allow members to experiment with 11mm kernmantle rope, pulleys, screw-gate karabiners, nylon tape and various ascenders. Other important aspects covered load limits, taking care of, handling and storage of all equipment.

Gary taking questions from Swan SES members.

All mechanical advantage rigs were setup in a horizontal fashion to drag across the floor.

With the aid of a 6:1 pulley system, one of our female volunteers was able to drag three very determined male members across the tarpaulin.
