Swan Ses was one of many Ses units that took part in the search for the recent missing quad bike rider.
The search was mainly conducted in 4×4 vehicles, due to the vast area that needed to be covered. Finally the missing person was found alive, by police bush trackers a number of kilometres from the last known location. Luckily an SES team found the quad bike, and searchers were able to centre the search efforts around the find. Police TRG bush trackers were called in to follow footprints and finally fonud Paul Pyke, severely dehydrated but alive.
SES units had a degree of difficulty of navigation across the board with a lack of mapping supplied by other other agencies to assist in the search. however as part of our training we were able to overcome these issues and make sure we searched the area thoroughly. The high temperatures were also of concern for searchers, having to ensure they themselves did not sucumb to the conditions.
