In recent weeks coming into the hot weather conditions, Swan SES has been called upon to assist in two local area searches. The first being for a missing 9 year old girl in Ellenbrook and the second for a missing 12 year old boy in Ballajura.
In the Ellenbrook Search, seven Swan SES members were the first team on site in the search for 9 year old Wendy. Our members searched through local bushland, streets and parks through the night while most of the locals were fast asleep in their beds unaware of the commotion outside. By 9 am the second shift of searchers were being briefed when the news came in that the young girl had been found – by media reports at an “associates house”. In total in this search over 100 SES volunteers came from far and wide across the metropolitan area to assist.
On Saturday morning 14/12/13, Swan SES were once again called upon to assist in the search for a missing 12 year old boy in Ballajura. Luckily in this case the boy was found shortly after at a friends house.
As volunteers we would like to ask all residents that if you do see something not quite right, or if your child brings someone home to stay the night to please ensure you have spoken to the other child’s parents to ensure they know where they are. Both of the above searches could have been avoided had there been appropriate communication.
