Swan Unit members attended a Communications course held at Bayswater SES over the weekend. Three of Swan’s members were included in the group of twelve, along with members from several other Units including the Canine Unit, Canning South Perth, Wanneroo/Joondalup, Stirling and Kalamunda.
Over the two days we covered theory and practical exercises which included how to use basic radio equipment. We learnt to speak a new language “Communications lingo” and got to meet other volunteers to bounce ideas off of. We all left the weekend feeling much more knowledgeable and having gained new friends. Plans are already underway to make a visit to the DFES Operations Bunker to further our communications skills and understanding.
Thanks to our terrific trainers from Communications Support Unit: Greg Cook, Steve Crawford, Elton Van den Dungen, Matt Barber and Rob Crawford, we now have a fantastic set of communications trained volunteers. Thanks also to the Course Co-ordinator Glenn Hall.
